Carol Koon, LMT, BA I have over 27+ years experience in Massage and Medical Massage. However, the story started years ago in the 1970's when I learned Reflexology. I was 17 and working on people's feet! I was always the child who gave backrubs for $1. I learned Yoga at 16 and started studying Herbal and natural remedies. I still have some of those books from the 70's. I highly recommend "Richard Hittleman's 28 Day Exercise Plan for Yoga". It is still in print.
After finishing the University of Akron in 1993 and graduating Summa Cum Laude, I worked with juvenile delinquents for a few years. At a health and fitness expo with my "little sister" (Big Brother and Big Sister program), we discovered the massage school. I thought: "you can get paid for that?". So I was able to make my hobby my career and started at the Ohio College of Massotherapy in 1995. I became licensed in June of 1997. I worked at Mario's International Spa in Aurora and Akron for 8 years. I've taken courses in Myofascial Release, neuromuscular, PNF, etc, etc. it's all still Swedish movements.
In 2002, I was recruited by the Ohio College of Massotherapy to teach. I taught brick and mortar and online for 10 years. Because I taught online, I was able to teach when I moved to the Outer Banks. I taught and worked at Mario's. I miss teaching, so I do tend to pass on information that I have accumulated through the years when needed. I'm available to teach anyone who would like to massage family members.
I worked at a few local Day Spas until going out on my own (bravely in 2016). My goal is to provide the best massage I can in the Outer Banks for a reasonable price. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1997 as a limited Branch of Medicine in Ohio (#33.007529). The Ohio State Medical Board requirements (Anatomy and Physiology) were rigorous and prepared me to work with clients disorders such as: Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Rheumatism, STRESS, anxiety, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Lupus, Parkinson's, ALS and most Soft Tissue Pain. I have done massage in University Hospital of Cleveland on the Oncology Floors and Antepartem Floor. Massage does NOT take the place of Medical Treatment and is not intended to. With that said, massage can help with circulation, chronic pain disorders, everyday aches and pains that come with aging and or pregnancy, lower blood pressure, boost the immune system and help with healing(Cleveland Clinic, 1990). I have been serving the Outer Banks since 2005. NC license #5703.
I had a 90 minute massage with Carol and it was awesome!

I graduated from the University of Akron in 1993 with a Bachelors of Arts. I'm rather proud of that!
